Making It With Allie - Roberto Capucci

This week while we are visiting family in Philadelphia,
we were able to visit the most inspiring
Roberto Capucci: Art Into Fashion
exhibit at the

Can I tell you - It was AMAZING!
I am feeling SO inspired!
I want my sewing machine to be HERE. Now.

I will spare you a lengthy Fashion History Lesson and tell you to go read about
Roberto Capucci, the Legendary Italian Designer HERE

I wanted to share a few photos of some of my favorites!

Bocciolo (Bud) Dress 2009 - 1956 reproduction
The "bubble" skirt is not a recent fashion trend!
Capucci first did it in 1956

This 1971 silhouette and style was so influential that even my mother's wedding dress mirrors this style!
I will share that gem with you in the future!

1984 Silk Taffeta embroidered with crystal beads

1984 Cinema Sculpture Dress
Can you see the reels of film?

1985 Pleated Silk Taffeta
I actually joked that he MUST be part Egyptian to be able to pleat like that, when it was pointed out that Capucci came across some VERY old pleaters in 1971 and started experimenting with them!

1984 Bougainvillea
This reminds me of some costumes I wore in Little Shop of Horrors!

1992 Satin Sculpture Dress

1992 Pagoda Sculpture Dress

  8. What an incredible exhibition! I love the Philadelphia Museum of Art. My husband and I used to travel to King of Prussia every year for an American Folk Art show when we owned our business. We always added a few days to our trip to enjoy Philly. Such a great city!

I look forward to hearing more about your mother's wedding dress!

Thanks for hosting the party too!
