Tarynne

I have something REALLY fun to share with you all today!
I had a lot of fun putting this one together.
Even if I had to stop 90% of the way finished and rewind 50%...
Thanks to my LYING iron.
Ok, it only lies because it has been knocked off the board enough times.
But it's still my favorite iron and if I was using a pressing cloth, I would not have melted the stretchy mesh.  But, in the end, it worked out better than I planned.

What is the way to fix a melted-fabric-issue?
Under-Panties from Walmart, or course!
Let me explain. When I melted the mesh, I decided that it probably wasn't the best fabric for what I was doing. So, I decided I would use lace. But then I thought further and decided that lace that did not have significant enough stretch, would not work and I would be rewinding again.... So, stretch lace.
But I did not want to pay for the minimum cut of stretch lace... Then it dawned on me that Walmart would have a cheap lacy pair of panties I could cut apart for next to nothing.
I could not have planned it better. I even had enough to embellish the sleeves.
I am really happy with how it turned out!

Thanks to my little brother JJ for messing around with the camera with me.

Sunday Smiles

I know I am going to probably offend somebody out there by saying this, but I have my reasons.  Like: I'm allergic. Anyways, I'm not a cat-lover. I don't hate cats. Well, most of them at least. But mostly because I am REALLY allergic. Anyways, this one is for my Aunt Shelley.

Making It With Allie - Picture Day

Yesterday was Picture Day for Miss AuBrynne.
I made her this dress and sweater set for the occasion.
The sweater has the cutest sleeves - Ruffles.
I think I might have to make one for myself. And for gramma. And for the aunts...
The bodice on the dress is done to make use of the curling nature of knit fabrics.
With little "peek-a-boo" crystals.  It turned out really cute!

A couple of weeks ago I did a linky party that was really fun!
I got to see all of the creativeness of all you fabulous crafters out there!
So, I think that we should do it again!
Let's see if we can make it even bigger and better while we are at it.

Link up any of your crafty handy-work.  It doesn't have to be something you have made this week or this month.  It can be your favorite craft or sewing  project or diy.
I am going to leave this one open for a week, so if you don't have something to link up just yet, start one today and link it up before next Thursday.
Just makes sure to grab a button (below)  and place it somewhere in your post OR on your blog; and Remember to share the comment-love with some of the other crafters linking up to the party!

SO . . . Get Linking!
-So we can party!

For those In-Between Days...

We  L O V E  school around here! YAY!
AuBrynne wakes up and says:
"It's time to go to school! It's time to play with the kids and Miss Kim and Miss Erin!"
It makes me SO happy to hear that she is happy!
I think she only likes to pick out her outfits each morning... Just joking.
Right now, the weather here is In-Between.
You know those days -starts out cool so you throw on a long sleeved shirt or a sweater.
But as you get going, you are grossly over-dressed.
So, I made this little "half-shirt" up for The Bug to see if this helped keep her warm enough but not too warm.
She told me she liked it, so I will be making some more.
They were SUPER quick and easy!

The Car-line

At AuBrynne's school, the teachers retrieve each student from their car-sear in the morning
and buckle them into their seats in the afternoon.
They can reduce the parking issues and control who the student is released to.
Each parent waits in the "car-line".
They supplied each of us with a card with the name of our child one it:

Now, I'm sure this is absolutely functional. Right?
Yes.
But is it cute? . . . . Ummm. Nope.
Is it Allie? . . . . Certainly Not!

So, you know what I did. I got the handy Cricut cutter and the vinyl out.
Have I ever told you that I LOVE that thing? Seriously!...
And guess what?
It is functional.  It is cute.  And it is very Allie...

Re-purposing -Make It and Love It Style

Have you all been over to Miss Ashley's blog?
It's called Make It and Love It.
And it is FABULOUS!
Ashley has great ideas and good tutorials!
Whether you are an expert sewer or a novice, you will enjoy her site.

Last week, Ashley did a great tutorial for this wonderful fall dress.

Well, I have had this t-shirt (that I love) that was silly-short on my tall, nearly 6 foot body...
And I had a light-bulb moment...
AuBrynne doesn't have to get the shirt refashioned for her.
You could do this for yourself!
It would be cute. AND coordinate with her little gray dress you just made...

So, this is the Gray, very high necked, crew t-shirt.
Side note: Tall, large-framed, curvy girls generally should try and steer clear of the crew neck line.
It makes for a good amount of real estate... Not the most flattering...
Anyways, the shirt:

Ok.  So, I whipped up the dress as Miss Ashley described, with a few alterations.
And given that I am SIGNIFICANTLY curvy, and I am fairly certain, Miss Ashley is not,
there were a few adjustments I needed to make.

Before I could start, I had to take the neck-line out and make it bigger.
More of a scoop.
Then, the belt area needed to be secured, because it kept riding up.

Second, the belt in the back didn't work as well because I used a remnant of another piece of fabric and didn't have enough to make a tube... It didn't work as well.

So, I took it apart and re-worked things and came up with this.
It works a bit better for my curvy-er shape, as the waist-line is a bit more pulled in and defined.
And it stays put.

Anyways, I am loving this dress! It's pretty comfy. And just funky enough for me...
